Galen, the privately-owned pharmaceutical sales and marketing company is pleased to announce that applications for the Dr John Hinds Scholarship Award 2023 are now open across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

The scholarship, which runs in association with The College of Paramedics, is presented in memory of the late Dr John Hinds, who was regarded as an inspirational leader by paramedics and emergency medical technicians and those in pre-hospital care within Ireland. A world-renowned critical care physician, Dr Hinds gave a huge amount of his own time to educating and supporting paramedics and ambulance staff throughout the Island of Ireland. He died in 2015 following a motorcycle accident.

The recipient of the scholarshipwill win a fully funded place on the highly coveted Anaesthesia Trauma and Critical Care (ATACC) course and have their case study published in the College of Paramedics’ magazine, 'Paramedic INSIGHT'.

Dr Dennise Broderick, Managing Director & President, Galen, said: “We are delighted to support this award for a fourth year, through our partnership with The College of Paramedics and pay tribute to Dr John Hinds’ legacy.

“At Galen, we appreciate now more than ever the importance of the work undertaken by emergency medicine professionals right across the island of Ireland. We hope that through this scholarship we can support the emergency medicine sector in a small way, by providing a unique opportunity for healthcare professionals to advance their expertise and gain access to a globally recognised training programme.”

Imogen Carter, Executive Officer for Policy Development at the College of Paramedics said: “The College of Paramedics is proud to host this award in the name of Dr John Hinds, in partnership with Galen. We look forward to receiving many high-quality clinical case studies from responders across NI and ROI by the 27th of February.”

To apply for the scholarship award, entrants must submit a Clinical Case Study that was experienced in person. Submissions should be 750–1,000 words, excluding references and appendices and be written to protect patient confidentiality. As a condition of the award, the case study will be submitted for publication in Paramedic INSIGHT magazine which has over 20,000 subscribers, along with a follow-up article that describes their experience on the ATACC course.
