A new era began in Southend today (Monday, 26th September) with the opening of a brand new ambulance station.

The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust (EEAST) welcomed staff and local dignitaries from the county and saw the station, based on Aviation Way, officially opened by the Lord Lieutenant of Essex Lord Petre, the first to be opened in Essex in recent years.

Chief Executive Robert Morton said: “This should be a proud day for the staff of south-east Essex; it truly is a fantastic station. I want to thank everyone who has been involved in making this day happen.”

He added: “This new station will not only be an asset to the staff who use its modern facilities, but also to the public who will be treated more quickly and effectively.”

The Lord Lieutenant of Essex, Lord Petre said: “I’m very impressed with the new station here in Southend, all the staff I met were extremely friendly and the facilities were spotless.”

Southend Mayor Councillor Judith McMahon also attended and said: “The visit was so informative and it is clear to see the new facilities here will not only benefit the staff who use it but also the public.”

She added: “I’m particularly impressed with the system in place that ensures every ambulance is fully stocked after a shift resulting in a smooth handover for the next crew.”
