Nick Hassell- SP Services (UK) Limited & Steve Purslow- Project Co-ordinator, Operation Sabre

SP Services have again supported Operation Sabre, an ongoing relief effort to supply basic fire fighting equipment to rural villages in the poorest countries throughout Europe.

Volunteers from Shropshire and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Services set off on 15th June 2016 on an 8 day mission to Mures County in Romania. A journey of 1,800 miles across Europe to deliver 3 fire engines, 2 four wheel drive support vehicles, equipment and humanitarian aid. The vehicles will be used to create new fire stations in Transylvania as rural areas have little fire cover and donated to the villages of Fărăgău, Beica de Jos and Miercurea Nirajului. Local people will also be trained to use the fire fighting equipment and in basic fire fighting techniques.

SP Services have donated first aid kits for each vehicle which will be used to provide basic first aid when the vehicles see active service in Romania.

Nick Hassell from SP Services said: “We are pleased to have helped out with the donation of first aid kits for these emergency vehicles. SP Services have been providing support for major disaster and relief projects for a number of years and will continue to assist where it can in the future”.

Steve Purslow, Project Co-ordinator for Operation Sabre said ”It is wonderful news that SP Services have helped out and provided essential first aid supplies. The donation will make a large difference to the communities we are assisting”.

Operation Sabre is a small registered charity and has previously assisted with similar relief efforts in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland.   For more information on the charities ongoing relief efforts visit their Facebook page operationsabre.
