The NHS Trust Development Authority (NHS TDA) has today confirmed the appointment of Vijay Sharma as Non-Executive Director of East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust.


Vijay has a wealth of experience having held a number of Trustee and Non-Executive Director roles in health, criminal justice, regional/local government, higher education and third sectors. She has worked with the BBC for 25 years in various senior roles, and as the former head of the BBC Asian
Network she was crucial to its early development. Vijay served as Non-Executive Director at the East Midlands Health Authority and then the Midlands and East Strategic Health Authority for six years and was interim Chair of Healthwatch Leicestershire.

Commenting on her appointment, Vijay said: “I am looking forward to working towards helping EMAS realise its vision of being at the centre of the urgent care system within the East Midlands.”

Interim Chairman, Pauline Tagg added: ““I am delighted that Vijay will be joining us and I am sure that she will bring with her a wealth of knowledge and experience to complement our current Non-Executive Directors and Executive Team.”

Non-executive appointments to NHS Trusts made by the NHS TDA are subject to the Code of Practice of the Commissioner for Public Appointments.
Vijay Sharma has been appointed from 1 October 2014 until 30 September 2016 and is entitled to receive a remuneration of £6,157 per annum.
