Micro car ambulance deployed by QML after successful trials

Thursday, 16 May, 2013

Quad Medical Limited a Bromley based private ambulance and event medical team provider will be able to reach patients locked in by massive crowds at events thanks to a new, pint-sized ambulance.

The latest addition to the QML Ambulance Service, a micro car measuring a mere 250cm in length, will be deployed for the first time on 7th June, on display at the Bromley Pageant of Motoring after a successful trial earlier this month.

The three ’10,000 Smart car ambulance will enable paramedics and Medical Team staff to manoeuvre through large crowds unlike regular ambulance vehicles.

The advantage of the Smart car is that it will allow our ambulance service to have a quicker response, particularly when it comes to large events.

"We intend to use the Smart car in big events ... we anticipate they will be in use every weekend."

It may be super small, but the car contains all the essentials from a regular ambulance apart from the bed - including oxygen resuscitation equipment, drug and first aid kits, and a defibrillator.

The car also has the advantage of protecting paramedics from the elements, unlike ambulance motorcycles.

The two-seater custom designed unit will make it easier to negotiate crowds and get into tight places where traditional ambulances cannot reach.

The mini-ambulances are popular in European cities where streets are narrow and are great when trying to cut our carbon foot print in the borough of Bromley
