Appointment of New Non-Executive Director

Friday, 09 April, 2010

THE London Ambulance Service is pleased to announce that Nigel Walmsley has been appointed as a non-executive director of the Trust.

Mr Walmsley, who is the Chairman of the Broadcast Audience Research Board (BARB) and a former Chief Executive of Carlton Television and before that of Capital Radio, took up his post last month.

It carries remuneration of £6,096 per annum and he will serve on the Trust Board until March 2014.

The appointment has been made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments' (OCPA) code of practice.

All non-executive appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees' political activity (if any declared) to be made public.

Mr Walmsley hasn't declared any political activity, but has been a non-executive director for Passenger Focus since 2005, for which he is paid £16,000 a year by the Department for Transport.
