UKs first Emergency E-Bike Ambulance Fleet aims for rapid response at high-attendance events
Monday, 12th January, 2026
Operated by Acute Ambulance & Medical Services (AAMS), headquartered in Milton Keynes, this pioneering initiative marks a major innovation in marathon medical safety, response times, and eco-friendly emergency care. The fleet will be on call at the London Winter Run next month.
Designed to navigate crowded environments at high speed while carrying medical-grade equipment, the E-Bike Ambulances offer significantly faster response times during events where traditional vehicles may face delays. This innovation allows medics to reach runners experiencing exhaustion, dehydration, injuries, or medical episodes in a matter of seconds.
While traditional motorcycle response units are common, e-bike ambulances have never been deployed in an official medical capacity anywhere in the world at a sports event. This breakthrough marks a major evolution in rapid-response medical care, faster access in crowded events, zero emissions, and silent operation that enhances safety, comfort, and environmental responsibility.
Each E-bike ambulance is equipped with:
Full first-aid and trauma kits Defibrillator (AED)
Airway management tools
Bleeding control kits
Communication radios
High-visibility safety lighting
Commenting, Kieren Gibson, Director at AAMS, says:
“We are redefining what responsive, clean and safe event medical support looks like. Big sporting events require rapid, flexible emergency response, and these bikes allow our team to reach patients faster, more safely, and more sustainably than ever before.”
The fleet will be used at high-attendance sporting events, urban public gatherings, festivals and other mass participation activities.
