Katie McIvor and Shaun Stewart

One of North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) Clitheroe's Community First Responder team got down on one knee to propose to his fellow CFR and field trainer partner, in the middle of a training exercise!

Shaun Stewart and Katie McIvor both volunteer as Community First Responders (CFR) in the Clitheroe CFR team. On 23 June 2012, Field Trainers from the area were in the thick of a Development Day exercise at Broughton House, when Katie realised that Shaun wasn't only down on one knee to measure her blood oxygen levels.

The pair first met three years ago at Clitheroe Fire Station, where the First Responder team is based. Their relationship began as a secret from colleagues, but quickly took flight into a whirlwind romance, and the couple went public. Three years later, Shaun sought the blessing of his soon-to-be parent-in-laws, before conspiring with Jane Atkinson, NWAS Community Resuscitation Development Officer (CRDO), to plan how he could incorporate his proposal into the day.

Katie, the ecstatic bride-to-be, said: "For a couple brought together through a shared community spirit
there could be no more perfect, nor shocking, proposal! "A note for all women out there - scenario work gives [the proposer"> the opportunity to get on one knee without noticing...and look when [they"> say [they"> are going to put 'this' on your finger, it might not be the Pulse Oximeter you were expecting!

"Our lives have been full of love, laughter and friendship (and responding) and our relationship has grown stronger every day. A special thank you from us both to Jane Atkinson...and also to the Field Trainers present for their ongoing love and support."
