Cycling from Whittlesey to Heacham for lifesaving service

Monday, 15 November, 2010

Cyclists in Cambridgeshire wheeled their way through a 50 mile cycle ride to raise money for their local lifesaving service.

The group left the Letter B in Whittlesey, waved off by friends and supporters and cycled to Heacham to the Fox and Hound pub for well deserved refreshments. In the process they raised £3,488.96 to support the community first responder group in Whittlesey which provides cover for the communities of Whittlesey, Eastrea and Coates and Pondersbridge.

Coordinator Craig Gardner said: "It is great to see so much support for the CFR scheme; we all volunteered to provide something back to the communities in which we live and it is really amazing to see the support that the community has for us all. "I would like to thank Bruce at the Letter B for all his support over the years and for organising this event."

East of England Ambulance Service Cambridgeshire's community partnership manager Lorna Hayes added: "This is an example of the community supporting others at their time of need, and this support will enable the group to go on from strength to strength. I would like to thank all those who gave up their time and got involved."
