Land Rover to the rescue

Wednesday, 04 March, 2009

West Midlands Ambulance Service has thanked Land Rover and volunteer organizations for their invaluable contribution during the spell of snow and bad weather around the region last month.

Land Rover made twelve 4x4 vehicles available to the service free of charge and they were utilised in areas where normal ambulance service vehicles found it difficult to go.

The Land Rover Discoverys, Range Rovers and Defenders were fitted with emergency
service blue lights and were used by the Ambulance Service in conjunction with the
Trusts fleet of 4x4 vehicles. The Land Rover vehicles proved invaluable, collecting and transfer ambulance staff that had difficulties getting into work and to transfer other staff around the region. Incident Support Officers also utilised the vehicles to get to
emergency calls where access was very difficult.

West Midlands Ambulance Service also thanked other volunteer organisations who provided invaluable assistance during the severe weather. The British Red Cross and St John Ambulance and Severn Area Rescue Associations (SARA) provided many vehicles and staff to assist and a number of 4x4 clubs also volunteered their services.
