Permanent

Full time or part time (1.4 FTE available)

Canterbury, Kent

We are seeking experienced, motivated and talented UK-HCPC/NMC registered paramedics or urgent/emergency care practitioners, to join our programme team as Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer in Paramedic Science to support our current and future paramedic science provision.

If you are enthusiastic about enhancing paramedic higher education and teaching our students, we would be pleased to hear from you.  You will join an established and ambitious subject team teaching mostly our undergraduate students in Medway, and at times other students on health, social care and public health programmes at all HE levels on different University campuses.

The Role

As a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer, you will use your high-quality practice experience, as a paramedic or urgent/emergency care practitioner, or your previous teaching, to deliver specialist and generalist knowledge and skills to students at all HE levels.

You will use different learning and teaching methods, sensitive to different cultures and students’ ways of learning.  Although for most of the time you will teach our paramedic students, interprofessional education is a key part of our learning and teaching approach and you will teach students from other professions. Using contemporary evidence, you will prepare students for future clinical practice which supports embedding research into practice for patient benefit. Your level of appointment will be in line with your previous experience and the University will offer you career development opportunities.

You will work within an established and friendly group of academic and professional staff, and will contribute to enhancing the work and the reputation of the School as a whole, collaborating interprofessionally and effectively with colleagues in the Faculty, University and externally as appropriate.

You will undertake scholarly activity, maintain or work towards being research active and contribute to the School’s enterprise and innovation within the UK and internationally. The nature of this contribution will vary according to your experience and your direction of work will be required to fit with the School’s strategic plans. We would particularly welcome applications from those with an interest in improvement methods or the implementation of evidence within paramedic practice and pre-hospital care.

The Person

We welcome applications from UK HCPC/NMC registered experienced paramedics, or urgent/emergency care practitioners who have a minimum of a relevant first Honours degree and/or relevant professional experience.  You will be able to offer high-quality practice knowledge and skills relevant to our paramedic students, and be committed to inter-professional higher education. You will have a sound understanding of the UK statutory and professional requirements, evidence of active continuing professional development and have interest in developing your research expertise or extending this further.
