Will your driving Licence limit your career opportunities?
Recently students have found not having the C1 licence entitlement has impeded employment opportunities with the Ambulance service. Operations Manager at Network HGV Stephen Manning also said “when students apply for a job with an Ambulance trust, whether after graduating or by direct entry, they will expect them to have the C1 category already on their licence. Not having the correct entitlement hinders job offers and course placements.”
Universities do vary on their driving licence requirements. Although some just require a provisional C1 licence and allow students to gain the licence during the holidays, most will require a full C1 entitlement before interviews. Stephen Manning knows only too well the importance of delivering quality training in short time frames and commenting on this he said: “Many students come to us without realizing just what’s involved in gaining their C1 Licence and leave it to the last minute. This puts undue pressure on the candidate during the course, as should they fail, they would not be accepted on to job placements or university courses. Our instructors have over 10 years of driver training experience, this combined with delivering the course in a real ambulance means it is easier to pass as most companies deliver the licence in a 7.5 ton or 18 ton truck. For some recently qualified
drivers this can be too much of a daunting task.”
Students who have trained with Network HGV have secured rewarding careers in the
Ambulance Service as Mr P Steward commented… “I would just like to pass on my thanks for the outstanding help you gave me with my C1 driving course, it was exceptional. My ambition to join the ambulance service was on the brink of being taken away for the sake of the
right vehicle to train on. Your ex-ambulances are the ideal training tool for anyone looking for a career in the ambulance service and with a need for C1 on their licence. The professionalism and good nature that Tony exhibited were remarkable, a truly brilliant instructor. My brief time with Eddie was also very valuable and it would seem that all the instructors are of the same high standard. May I pass on my best wishes to you all and thank you once again. You are perfect for anyone looking to train on an appropriate vehicle for the ambulance service.”
