SECAmb staff to once again join thousands at Pride

Monday, 29 July, 2013

South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SECAmb) staff are getting ready to join the thousands at this year’s Pride Brighton & Hove.

Staff from the Trust’s Sussex, Surrey and Kent region will represent SECAmb at the event and will be joined by fellow ambulance service colleagues from across the country. It is the seventh consecutive year SECAmb as a Trust has attended the celebration.

Up to 100 are expected to walk with the Trust’s float in the parade and this year SECAmb will also be in official attendance with a stand at the event in Preston Park after the parade.

Staff will demonstrate life-saving skills and provide advice on recruitment, Community First Responder schemes, and Trust membership.

The last 12 months has been a busy and exciting time for the Trust and PRIDE in SECAmb – its Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) staff network.

In January SECAmb entered Stonewall’s Top 100 list of employers for the first time ranking 35 out of 369 organisations in its Workplace Equality Index 2013 – a leap of more than 100 places from its position of 142 in 2012. The Trust was also awarded Stonewall’s ‘Star Performing Network’ status and in June SECAmb committed to an LGBT mentoring programme in partnership with Brighton & Hove City Council.

Geraint Davies, Director of Commercial Services and Chair of PRIDE in SECAmb said: “SECAmb is once again looking forward to being represented at Pride Brighton & Hove. I’m always delighted we have such a strong turnout and we always get a fantastic response from the crowds lining the streets. SECAmb values diversity and we’ll continue to work in partnership with organisations such as Stonewall to promote this diversity and equality in the workplace.”

SECAmb Emergency Operations Centre Manager and ParamedicWill Bellamyis part of the team organising SECAmb’s involvement in the event. He added: “We’re all looking forward to this year’s Pride and being joined by colleagues from other ambulance services. We hope people take the time to come and visit our stand in the park and find out a little bit more about their local ambulance service.”
