NWAS double

Monday, 31 December, 2012

NWAS Director of Organisational Development (OD) Margo Kane walked away with not one, but two NHS awards; an Outstanding Achievement in Patient Centred HR/OD Award, and a Recognition Award for Promoting Excellence in HR and OD practice within the NHS in the North West.

The HR Directors' Conference and Awards 2012 was hosted by NHS North West on 5 December 2012. Margo was firstly a finalist for the Outstanding Achievement in Patient Centred HR/OD Award along with Rachel Charlton from East Cheshire NHS Trust and Sue Green from Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The award was open to NHS HR/OD Directors and the winner's organisation had to demonstrate value to the quality of services delivered to patients/services utilising best practice methodologies, tool and techniques.

After the announcement Margo said: "Trust Board worked hard to secure additional funding and within a 6 month period, we managed to recruit, train and deploy new staff. Due to a huge amount of additional work done by the Trust's management team and staff, this helped to contribute to the Trust becoming the highest performing ambulance trust in the country by the end of 2011/12.

Secondly, Margo was shortlisted for the HR/OD Role Model award along with Ros Edwards from Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust and Kevin Moynes from NHS Greater Manchester. The winner had to have been recognised as having provided outstanding leadership and/or an outstanding professional contribution in the field of HR/OD.

Finally, NWAS received an unexpected national recognition award. This was given for NWAS's achievement in gaining the Investors in People Gold standard. The award recognises those organisations whose achievements have raised the profile of HR and OD within the NHS at a national level. Margo said: "The HR Team is very proud to contribute to NWAS's success and most importantly ensure our staff continually provide high quality patient care.
