A team of five from West Midlands Ambulance Service will soon be taking on a one day 140 mile coast-to-coast cycle challenge for the charity Rethink Mental Illness.

Rethink Mental Illness directly supports almost 60,000 people affected by mental illness every year across England.

The team chose the charity because through their work they see many individuals and families with issues relating to mental health. Mental health is also close to participant's Steve Pearce, Community Paramedic Officer's heart because when his son was 18 years old, he became very ill with a mental illness. The charity Rethink Mental Illness has been pivotal over the last ten years or so in getting Steve's son, Ben, close to living as normal and independent a life as possible.

Starting on the west coast in Whitehaven, they will travel cross country, over the Pennines before reaching the finish line in Sunderland.
