Wednesday, 08 July, 2009

North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of Darren Hurrell as the new Chief Executive Officer for the Trust.

The appointment follows the retirement of John Burnside who retired at the end of May.

Prior to this appointment, Darren was the Chief Executive of Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology NHS Foundation Trust, based in Bebington on the Wirral. He has held a number of Director posts in the Northern and Yorkshire region, and before taking up the CEO post at Clatterbridge in 2007, he was the Director of Service Modernisation at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

NWAS Chairman, Mary Whyham, said: "I am very pleased to welcome Darren to NWAS as our new Chief Executive. Darren brings with him a wealth of experience and leadership skills and he will be a real asset to the ambulance service and the executive management team. We have a great ambulance service to be proud of and I have every confidence that he will steer us successfully towards our future goals."

Darren is looking forward to joining NWAS and said: "I am absolutely delighted to have been offered the post of CEO of the largest ambulance service in the country. Having worked across a number of NHS Trusts I understand what a key role the ambulance service plays across the North West, and I hope to take up the reins as soon as I can."
