New SimMan 3G patient simulator takes centre stage at Ambex

Friday, 16 May, 2008

At this year's Ambex, Laerdal will be championing the use of simulation in ambulance education and training. The central attraction of Laerdal's stand (no. M42) will be the brand new, wireless SimMan 3G - possibly the most sophisticated, realistic and user-friendly patient simulator on the market. Also on display will be the Laerdal MediCool - a new, pre-hospital hypothermic treatment for sudden cardiac arrest patients, trauma equipment and a range of affordable, reliable HeartStart defibrillators, including the MRX and the new FR3.

Presentation on simulation in training and education for paramedics
Fortifying Laerdal's commitment to improve education through simulation and to support the launch of SimMan 3G, which will be available to the UK market from July, Laerdal's Programme Development Manager, Tony Kemp will be giving a thirty-minute presentation on scenario-based training for ambulance professionals. The free-of-charge presentation is to be held on Wednesday 25th June, in Hall B at 11.30am.

Talking about the benefits of using simulation within a training programme, Tony explained, "Portable patient simulators provide a safe, cost effective and realistic platform on which personnel can practice and hone clinical and social skills, but this is not where it ends. Real value is achieved in the period of learning that takes place after the scenario. Planning, live feedback and positive debrief sessions allow for greater personal reflection and enhanced learning which can then be taken back into the workplace. The presentation will be a thought provoking and stimulating insight into the world of ambulance education."

Presentation on hypothermic treatment
On Thursday 26th June at 10.30am in Hall B, Steven Haken, Laerdal's hypothermia specialist, will be giving an introduction to the benefits of pre-hospital treatment of cardiac arrest using induced hypothermia - a safe, and effective method of reducing post resuscitation neuralgic impairment.
