Reznor Comes To the rescue at Luton Ambulance garage

Housing up to 30 ambulance vehicles, an East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) depot required a heating system to keep vehicles dry, warm and ready for dispatch 24/7. Appointed to replace an ineffective and costly heating system, leading supplier of gas-fired warm air heating and ventilation systems, Reznor supplied 2 x V3 room sealed warm air unit heaters - helping to improve the internal environment, reduce heat loss and cut maintenance costs in half.

At the 850m2 Luton Ambulance Depot, the installation of an inefficient heating system had resulted in inadequate heat distribution, greater temperature stratification and excessive heat loss through the roof. After installing three of Reznor's Maximisor 9000 destratification fans in 2010, the building had seen significant improvements to internal conditions and noticeable energy savings. So when it came to improving the outdated heating system - Reznor proved the natural choice.

Working with contractor Thompson Building Services Ltd, Reznor supplied 2 x UDSA100 - the most powerful model from its V3 unit heater range with an output of 97kW. Incorporating a radical new heat exchanger manufactured from titanium stabilised aluminised steel and advanced burner technology - the V3 models offer the optimum unit heater solution for a wide range of applications.

Graeme Tolliday, EEAST Assistant General Manager covering Luton & Bedfordshire said: "We are extremely pleased to work in partnership with Reznor and Thompson Building Services."

Compact, lightweight and cost effective - the V3 range of unit heaters are particularly suited for difficult to heat areas such as large spaces with high ceilings. Installed across industrial, commercial and retail premises, the system met the brief perfectly and delivered exceptional heating performance across the vast internal space.

Designed with energy efficiency in mind, the UDSA100 heaters achieve over 92% thermal efficiency. Offering an exceptional throw of 46 metres, the two unit system provides coverage along and across the entire garage from each UDSA100 placed at either end of the garage.

The V3 range of heaters also benefit from an automatic ignition which removes the need for troublesome pilot lights. The previous heating system's pilot light outage had caused inconvenience and high service and maintenance costs, as its high level mounting and main access tower would occasionally interfere with ambulance dispatch. With a lower mounting height and reduced weight for quicker installation, the UDSA100 again proved ideal.

At Luton Ambulance Depot, the cutting edge heating system from Reznor has ensured that the East of England Ambulance Trust can continue to deliver its exemplary service to more than half a million emergency calls every year.
