About the role

The successful candidate will co-ordinate adesignated number of ambulance crews to enable and provide support to the staffand volunteers involved in delivering high quality care to patients, inpartnership with the South Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) NHS FoundationTrust across the Trust area.

The post has a particularresponsibility to provide administrative and practical support to the AmbulanceCrews in Kent and Sussex and Surrey in support of the Ambulance Support ServiceDelivery Manager (SECAmb)

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide support to the Ambulance Support Service Delivery Manager andAmbulance Crew Team Leaders.
  • The post is responsible for the day to day operation and deployment ofthe Red Cross Emergency Ambulances working under contract for SECAmb locatedwithin Kent and Sussex.
  • Working closely with the Service Delivery Manager, other AmbulanceSupport coordinators, Ambulance Crews and Area Logistics Team ensure that alloperational ambulances are maintained at the highest standards.

About the team

Ambulance Support services are delivered under contract to NHS Ambulance Trusts andAmbulance Commissioners across the UK. In England, we provide urgent andemergency ambulance support to the North East, South Central, and South EastCoast NHS Ambulance Trusts. In Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Isleof Man we provide Patient Transport Services under contract to local Healthcommissioners.

Ourservices are regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in England and weapply the same standards to our service delivery across the whole of the UK.

We have a fleet of approximately 80 vehicles of varying specifications and we areconstantly reviewing these to ensure that they are current and meet therequirements of our services and service users. Our fleet and equipment iscomparable with those deployed by NHS services and we have recently introducedbariatric patient transport capability in to our services in Northern Irelandand the North East of England.

Ambulance Support services are delivered by around 140 full-time employed staff and afurther 80 casual staff trained to provide patient transport, urgent, oremergency ambulance services as required operating from 15 bases across the UK.Our services are directly managed by dedicated teams led by Service Deliverymanagers supported by Co-Ordinators and Team Leaders. A national leadershipteam oversees our service performance, quality and development.

In addition to our contracted Ambulance Support services, theBritish Red Cross provides ad-hoc, short-notice ambulance support (for example,surge-capacity) through our volunteer ambulance crew managed by our Event FirstAid services. We also offer supported hospital discharge services through ourIndependent Living services.

About the person

We are very interested in receiving applications fromcandidates who feel they meet the following criteria;

  • Full manual drivinglicence, with a maximum of 3 points.
  • Knowledge of supervision.
  • A goodworking knowledge of spreadsheets, email, web based and word processingsoftware.
  • Fitness to carry out the moving handling ofpatients and equipment.
  • Ability to work on own initiative or underinstruction from others.
  • Organisationalskills - planning and monitoring own workload.
  • Experienceof delivering high quality services to the public.
  • Caring attitude and sensitivity to others.
  • Recognisethe implications of working within a charity and a voluntary organisation.
  • Able to pass pre-employment medical checks.
  • Flexible approach to working hours and job demands.
  • Able to work shifts including unsocial hours, bankholidays evenings and weekends as required.
  • Able tobe on the On Call rota.
  • Able torespond to emergency situations, with 24 hour on call duties as required.
  • Able towork and travel extensively throughout the Area on a regular basis asappropriate, and more widely in the UK as required.
