John Burnside, Chair, Ambulance Service Network
Liz Kendall, Director Ambulance Service Network
Philip Selwood, Transitional Director Ambulance Service Network
On behalf of the Ambulance Service Network (ASN), which replaced the ASA earlier this year as the membership organisation representing ambulance services across the UK, together with those from the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, the Isle of Wight, and Gibraltar, we would like to extend a warm welcome to colleagues both nationally and internationally, as you join us at AMBEX 2008.
In establishing the theme for this year’s AMBEX we have tried to recognise the challenges faced by ambulance services across the UK in tackling an agenda that puts services at the centre of the health economy in the provision of out of hospital care. Fundamental to that process is the responsibility on services and all our partners involved in healthcare provision, to provide more appropriate and improved care to patients in their home or a community environment, rather than routinely transporting to an acute setting.
AMBEX has traditionally provided a major forum for all those involved in emergency healthcare, whether the discussions take place informally in the exhibition halls, during the various social and networking events, or more formally in the conference sessions. This year senior directors and managers from ambulances services, paramedics and technicians, community first responders, staff from voluntary service emergency care services and representatives from exhibiting companies and organisations, along with colleagues from other parts of the health economy will come together to share their experiences and discuss the key issues surrounding improved, ‘out of hospital’, patient care.
This year in the Exhibition, we are pleased to see many companies that have exhibited previously, but also to welcome a number of new organisations that are exhibiting for the first time. The ASN would particularly like to thank all exhibitors and those companies which have provided sponsorship for your support of this event.
The 2008 Conference Programme is continuing with the single plenary format and we are delighted to be welcoming a number of distinguished speakers and presenters, including Ben Bradshaw MP, Minister of State (Health), Nigel Edwards, Policy Director, NHS Confederation, Dr Albert Day and John Lawlor, Chair and Chief Executive respectively of Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust, Robert R Bass from the Maryland Institute of EMS Support Systems, Professor Keith Porter from University Hospital Birmingham, Vencat Changavalli from Andra Pradesh, India and those involved in the provision of emergency services to the Olympics. The Conference will be closed by Simon Weston who, as patron of the Ambulance Service Benevolent Fund, has kindly agreed to give the final keynote address.
And finally – the ASN Stand in the Exhibition is located in Hall C (C36) – please do come and visit us.
We wish you all a successful and enjoyable AMBEX 2008.
